Missing the weekly refuse collection?

For as little as £1.73 a week, we offer a fortnightly collection of the waste from your wheelie bin on the opposite week to your current council collection, thus enabling a weekly service.

These services are offered to complement the council provided collections, and are currently operational in the Richmondshire and Hambleton areas of North Yorkshire.

Why subscribe?

• You want a weekly collection of your refuse!

• You hate the smelly, bacteria ridden bin you’ve been forced to live with!

• You’ve recently become acquainted with rats, or have no desire to increase your chances of meeting them!

• Your house is not within easy walking distance of a civic amenity site, forcing you to use a car, requiring energy and resources. 

• (Which cancels out many of the environmental benefits of recycling, if that is the purpose of your visit.)

• You resent wasting your valuable time making trips to the tip.

• Your car upholstery is beginning to smell like a bin!

• You have problems depositing your legitimate household waste at the civic amenity site as you drive a commercial vehicle.

• As well as the above, you likely have your own individual problems with the new refuse service.  

• We will deal with it for you!

Although you pay council tax, this unfortunately does not entitle you to weekly collection of your refuse.  The waste collection authorities are obliged to provide a waste collection, but the frequency of these collections are left to the discretion of each individual authority.

From the householder’s point of view, it may feel that the council have essentially given a reduction in service in relation to refuse collection. 

This is because the council are obligated by the Household Waste Recycling act 2003 to collect at least two types of recyclable waste together or individually separated from the rest of the household waste.  To comply with this legislation represents a significant cost to the council. 

The Household Waste Recycling act 2003 was passed to:

• attempt to limit the amount of waste going to landfill
• encourage householders to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible

Whilst these aims are necessary and worthwhile, the majority of us have no desire to leave the residual refuse rotting in our bin for two weeks!
